“The Promising Practices Award honors Carroll Lutheran Village for the outstanding steps they have taken to improve organizational readiness for a disaster,” said Linda Hollinger-Smith, Vice President, Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging. “The community has developed a comprehensive approach to planning for manmade or natural disasters in order to better serve the unique needs of their older adult population.”

Carroll Lutheran Village participated in PREPARE, a nationally recognized training program for disaster preparedness created by MLIA to address the specific needs of the senior living industry.  PREPARE has received the award for innovation and quality in Healthcare and Aging, 2007, from the American Society on Aging. Carroll Lutheran Village created a program called: “Developing Effective Ways to Communicate During a Disaster or Emergency.”


“This recognition is wonderful news for our community,” said Barbara Leasure, Director of Compliance and Education.  “We want to thank Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging for developing the PREPARE program and providing the information and resources that assisted us in creating our disaster plan.”


As a winner, Carroll Lutheran Village received an educational certificate for a staff member to attend a MLIA workshop, a training toolkit  and an award plaque.
