Telling the CCRC Story in a Changing Financial and Regulatory Environment
On December 2, 2009, LifeSpan will host a meeting for its CCRC members. Aaron M. Rulnick, Executive Vice President of Herbert J. Sims & Co. and Larry Minnix, President, AAHSA will be presenting "Telling the CCRC Story in a Changing Financial and Regulatory Environment." Lunch will be provided. A separate registration form will be sent out with additional information. The event is free for members.
Nancy Grimm Appointed Maryland OHCQ Director
 
LifeSpan welcomes Nancy Grimm, R.N., Esq. who has been appointed the new Director of the Office of Health Care Quality. Ms. Grimm has an extensive background in clinical nursing and nursing administration in addition to obtaining her law degree. Most recently, she has served as an executive with Washington Adventist Hospital, where her duties included quality review, staff education, infection control, and data collection and analysis. She graduated cum laude from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and the University of Baltimore, School of Law. Ms. Grimm joins OHCQ on November 4th.

DC News: Catania Introduces Health Care Facility Legislation
On October 6, 2009, Councilman David Catania introduced the "Health Care Facilities Improvement Act of 2009." The bill (B18-481) among other things, requires nursing homes to: have a full-time physician or nurse practitioner available on-site. In addition to a medical director, facilities must provide employee and volunteer training that shall include annual cultural competency trainings that address issues such as race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, and gender identity provide on-site medical services that shall include at minimum, the following services: podiatry, physical therapy, wound care, and mental health develop and maintain written policies and procedures governing management and operation of the facility to be approved by the Department of Health. >Read more
