QIS Surveys Delayed for Remaining Maryland Regions
OHCQ informed LifeSpan this week that the agency will delay the QIS training for the remaining survey teams, which include Eastern Shore and Montgomery County teams, until September of 2010.

In addition, CMS has informed OHCQ that an upgrade to the software is to occur next year, which will hopefully solve software glitches we survey teams have been experiencing. The agency expects to complete the training of these two teams who serve the Eastern Shore and Montgomery County after this upgrade software upgrade has occurred.

Team four recently just completed the training & is now conducting QIS.

2009 CCRC Benchmark Report Is In!
A total of 10 LifeSpan member CCRCs participated in a free-to-members web based benchmarking program this year. LifeSpan offered this new data reporting tool to members for the 1st time in 2009, and it allows CCRCs (and now other types of organizations) to input their data and in return receive state-specific and national data reports that contain important facility and operational metrics. Ziegler and AV Powell will to continue to offer this free tool through LifeSpan in 2010. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Lisa Fichman at LifeSpan at 410-381-1176 x 223, or lfichman@lifespan-network.org.
Nursing Facilities Escape Latest Round of Budget Cuts

State Encouraging Nursing Facilities to Adopt Electonic Record Systems
Maryland's Health Care Commission's Center for Information Technology is promoting the adoption of health information technology, particularly the adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) in nursing homes. They recently created a product portfolio of some of the software vendors that cater to nursing homes that were willing to provide discounted pricing to Maryland nursing homes. These are national vendors. While MHCC is not endorsing any particular vendor, they contacted about 30 vendors and the 9 listed are willing to provide interested facilities information and offer discounted pricing. > Read more
