Telling the CCRC Story in a Changing Financial and Regulatory Environment
On December 2, 2009, LifeSpan will host a meeting for its CCRC members. Aaron M. Rulnick, Executive Vice President of Herbert J. Sims & Co. and Larry Minnix, President, AAHSA will be presenting "Telling the CCRC Story in a Changing Financial and Regulatory Environment." Lunch will be provided. A separate registration form will be sent out with additional information. The event is free for members.

DHR Creates New Bureau of Long-Term Care Eligibility
The Maryland Department of Human Resources just announced the opening of a new Bureau of Long-Term Care Eligibility, which opened on October 30th (serving Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Prince George's County and Anne Arundel County). The Bureau recently received their new fax number which is 410-744-2432. Other contact information including phone numbers and the Bureau's address can be located in the October 26th Memo released by the Department of Human Resources.

LifeSpan Responds to Washington Post Article Critical of CCRCs
LifeSpan's President Isabella Firth responded to a recent Washington Post article that was critical of CCRCs. In the letter she says "since its inception, the continuing care model has demonstrated clear advantages to seniors and society as a whole. In most cases, seniors flourish in communities that combine social interaction with healthcare services. The wide range of services offered, including preventative healthcare, remove many burdens of daily living and enrich the overall quality of life of seniors. Studies demonstrate CCRC residents are generally healthier from a physical and mental standpoint and require less hospitalization when compared with non-CCRC residents of corresponding ages."

LifeSpan Annual Housing Conference is November 18th
Housing members are invited to attend LifeSpan's upcoming Housing Conference on November 18th at the Handelman Conference Center. Featured speakers include Bob Iber, HUD, Jennifer L. Bruce of DHCD, and Colleen Bloom, of AAHSA. The program runs 9:00AM-1:15PM, and the fee is $35.00 for the 1st registrant, $30.00 for 2nd or more.
