2010 IS THE YEAR TO BE DARING
If anything, doing business over the past couple of years has been challenging. And frustrating. And, at times, depressing. For most, it has been filled with near constant negative change, whether it was wanted or not.
In my experience with dealing with people, change is hard, but negative change is uber-tough. It is draining, exhausting, morale destroying.
One good thing that can come out of all this mayhem is the ability to harness change - to become less fearful of it and to use it for the better in business. In other words, negative change - if used wisely - can make us okay with being more daring Because that may be a somewhat rusty concept, I'll give an example.
I like to write, but creative writing has become a flaccid skill for me. For my business, I write a lot, but it is all matter-of-fact, blip-by-blip information. There's no real room for flourish. So, I started a personal blog with the goal of making one creative post per day, five days per week, to get my juices flowing again. Taking time to do this meant setting aside other things and working on something purely on a whim - something I don't have much time for these days.
Guess what? Disrupting my routine has worked wonders for my work output. Lasering in on my creative abilities in a different way has caused me to approach my work and my clients from other angles, to see information in new lights, and to have a better overall attitude about my work - all outcomes I never expected. It was a tiny, daring move for me that still frightens me sometimes, but I'm grateful that I did it.
What can you do to be daring in your business this year? Maybe you've always wanted to call on a specific person or company and haven't, for some reason. Perhaps there's a group or association you've wanted to join and keep putting it off because of money or time or whatever. It may be as elementary as rearranging your day to do something for yourself that you currently don't think you have time for.
We're all tired of change we don't want. Why not be daring enough to make a change that we DO want to become our new reality? Stop right now, and write down the one daring thing that you need to do in 2010, and start making it happen today. Make 2010 the year to DO what you DARE.
