Thank you, LEAD!

Maryland Legislature Adjourns Sine Die
The Maryland General Assembly closed out the 2009 legislative Session last week, with LifeSpan's advocacy staff scoring big victories for senior care on a number of fronts. Major proposals that passed include:
  • The state's budget, which avoided major Medicaid rate cuts;
  • Long-term care reform- State to begin by studying this year the feasibility of creating coordinated care program;
  • Pay for performance 3 year phase-in begins this July;
  • Streamlined, expedited CCRC contract review by Department of Aging;
  • BENHA board composition modified, increasing by one nursing home administrator, decreasing consumer members from 4 to 2, adding 2 more allied health professionals; and
  • DHMH will study and recommend changes to reimbursement methodology.
