LifeSpan Prevails on CCRC Legislation!
We won! On May 30, 2009, Governor O'Malley decided to allow HB952-Continuing Care Agreements and Other Related Agreements to go into effect July 1, 2009 without his signature. In a clear rebuke of the Department of Aging's inability to provide responsive oversight of CCRCs, the new law will accelerate the timeframe for approving continuing care agreements and related agreements, and limits DOA's scope in review/approval to previously approved agreements.
Congratulations, LifeSpan members, and thank you for your support and phone calls to the legislature and to the Governor's office! Our grassroots effort was instrumental in gaining both the General Assembly's as well as the Governor's support for this important legislation.
